Privacy Policy

1. Overview

At Free Keyboard Test (freekeyboardtest.com), user privacy is our foundational principle. As an online keyboard test platform, we have designed every aspect of our keyboard test website with a privacy-first architecture. Our free keyboard test utility is engineered to execute 100% locally in your client web browser — we do not track, log, intercept, or transmit your individual keypresses or typing habits to any remote server.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect (and what we deliberately do not collect), how we handle data, and the technical safeguards that make our keyboard test one of the most privacy-respecting testing tools available online. Whether you are performing a quick key verification or running an extended typing session, this policy applies equally to every visitor.

2. Information We Collect

Keystrokes — Never Collected: The keyboard test collects zero keystrokes on the server side. DOM keyboard events (keydown, keyup, and keypress) are consumed strictly within your browser's temporary memory to paint virtual keyboard highlights, calculate rollover counts, and detect key registration status. No keystroke data ever leaves your device — this applies whether you are using a Mac keyboard test, a Chromebook keyboard test, a laptop keyboard test, or any other hardware configuration.

Latency Measurements: If you use our keyboard test latency features, all timing calculations are performed using the browser's performance.now() API. These measurements exist only in volatile memory and are never transmitted, stored, or logged on our servers.

Contact Information: If you voluntarily reach out via our contact form, we collect the submitted name, email address, and message text solely to reply to your inquiry. We do not subscribe you to marketing lists or share this information with any third party.

Aggregate Analytics: We may use privacy-focused, cookie-free analytics to understand general traffic patterns (e.g., page views, referral sources, country-level geography). These analytics never record individual keystrokes, session replays, or personally identifiable information.

3. How We Use Information

Any communications received through the contact form are used exclusively for user support and technical resolution. We never sell, rent, or trade user contact details to commercial third parties. Aggregate analytics data, when collected, is used solely to improve site performance, identify broken pages, and prioritize feature development for the keyboard test.

We do not build user profiles, create advertising segments, or perform behavioral tracking of any kind. There are no hidden data pipelines — the online keyboard test is a static tool, not a data collection platform.

4. Cookies & Local Storage

We do not use tracking cookies, persistent advertising cookies, or any cookie-based fingerprinting techniques. The only data saved to your browser's local storage is your preferred color theme preference (localStorage.getItem('theme')), which stores a simple string value — either "dark" or "light" — to preserve your display mode preference and avoid screen flicker on subsequent visits.

This theme preference contains no personally identifiable information and can be cleared at any time through your browser's developer tools or settings. No session tokens, user IDs, or authentication cookies are ever created because our free keyboard test requires no accounts or sign-ins.

5. Keyboard Test Data Processing

Our keyboard test online works entirely within your browser using client-side JavaScript. When you press a key, the browser fires a native DOM event that our application listens to locally. The key code, key state (pressed or released), and event timestamp are processed in real time to update the on-screen virtual keyboard — highlighting active keys, marking tested keys, and tracking which keys remain in a blank keyboard test state.

Keyboard test latency measurements — the time delta between a physical keypress and the corresponding keydown event registration — are computed using high-resolution browser timing APIs. These values are displayed on screen for your reference and are discarded the moment you navigate away or close the tab. No latency data is transmitted to our servers or any third party.

All application state, including which keys have been pressed, counter values, and visual highlights, resides exclusively in browser memory (RAM). Refreshing the page resets the keyboard test to its initial blank state with zero residual data.

6. Data Storage & Security

Because we do not operate a remote database containing personal user records, there is zero risk of keystroke data breaches from our systems. All temporary application state is wiped automatically whenever you refresh or close your browser tab. Our website is served over HTTPS with modern TLS encryption, ensuring that even the static page assets are delivered securely.

We follow industry-standard security practices for our hosting infrastructure, including regular dependency audits, automated vulnerability scanning, and strict Content Security Policy headers to prevent cross-site scripting and data injection attacks.

7. Third-Party Services

Our static website assets — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and font files — are delivered through standard high-performance Content Delivery Networks (CDNs). These CDN providers may collect basic anonymous HTTP server logs (IP address, user agent, request timestamp) as part of standard cybersecurity defense and DDoS mitigation. We do not control or access these logs directly.

We may load web fonts from third-party font services. These requests are standard HTTP resource fetches and do not involve cookies or cross-site tracking. Unlike some other keyboard testing platforms such as ratatype keyboard test or similar tools, Free Keyboard Test does not embed third-party analytics SDKs, social media trackers, or advertising pixels.

We do not integrate with any service that would require sharing your keystroke data, typing patterns, or test results with external parties.

8. Platform-Specific Privacy

Our free keyboard test works identically across all major platforms with the same privacy guarantees. Whether you are running a Chromebook keyboard test online through ChromeOS's built-in browser, performing a Mac keyboard test on Safari or Chrome for macOS, or conducting a laptop keyboard test on a Windows notebook, the privacy protections described in this policy apply without exception.

No platform-specific data is collected or transmitted. The keyboard test does not access your operating system's accessibility APIs, input method editors, clipboard contents, or any hardware identifiers. The only information the application reads is the standard DOM KeyboardEvent object provided by your browser, which contains the key code and modifier state — nothing more.

Chromebook users can be assured that the keyboard test operates within the standard browser sandbox. Mac users should note that Safari's Intelligent Tracking Prevention provides an additional layer of privacy when using our tool. On all platforms, closing the browser tab permanently erases all test session data.

9. User Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may hold specific rights under data protection regulations such as the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). These rights typically include:

  • Right of Access: Request information about what personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to Deletion: Request erasure of any personal data we may have collected.
  • Right to Rectification: Request correction of inaccurate personal data.
  • Right to Data Portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
  • Right to Object: Object to certain types of data processing.

Since we do not maintain user accounts, tracking databases, or keystroke logs, we possess no identifiable records tied to individual testing sessions. If you have contacted us via the contact form and wish to have that correspondence deleted, please reach out and we will honor your request promptly.

10. Children's Privacy

Our keyboard test website is a general-purpose utility tool and is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age of digital consent in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the online keyboard test processes all data locally and does not require account creation or personal data submission, children can use the tool without exposing any personal information.

If a parent or guardian believes their child has submitted personal information through our contact form, please contact us and we will promptly delete such data.

11. Changes to This Policy

We reserve the right to revise this Privacy Policy to reflect technical updates, feature changes, or legal compliance requirements. Any modifications will be posted directly to this URL with a revised "Last Updated" timestamp at the top of the page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of our keyboard test after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.

12. Contact Us

For questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your data rights, please reach out via our Contact Page. We aim to respond to all privacy-related inquiries within 30 days.
